 Ostrich

Today's topic for the animal is 

The ostrich which is the largest and heaviest bird on Earth, belonging to the ratite group, which includes other flightless birds like emus and cassowaries. Standing up to 2.7 meters tall and weighing up to 160 kilograms, it has long legs and a long neck, with males displaying black and white feathers while females are grayish-brown.

Native to Africa, ostriches thrive in savannas and open grasslands. Known for their incredible speed, they can run up to 72 kilometers per hour, using their powerful legs to escape predators. Ostriches are omnivores, eating plants, seeds, insects, and small animals. They swallow pebbles to help digest their food.

Although not currently endangered, some subspecies, like the Arabian ostrich, are extinct due to hunting and habitat loss. Their main predators include lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, though their speed and strong kicks provide significant defense. Ostrich chicks and eggs are more vulnerable, often falling prey to smaller predators like jackals and birds of prey like Falcon or eagle.
